Season 7 - Episode 6 - Burn Out

Written by Jacqueline Hoyt
Directed by Alec Smight

When Lucas Hanson and Jason Crowley go missing Brass circles the area around their homes and Grissom is sent in to investigate. Grissom and Nick find a burned out four door Mercury Marquis in close proximity to the boys’ homes. Former school teacher and pedophile Carl Fisher states that someone tried to kill him by burning out his car and setting fire to his home. Fisher says that he has never met the two missing boys. Meanwhile, Brass questions Lucas’s mother Dawn. She says her ex husband stole their hide-a-key. Brass puts out a radio broadcast for Lucas’s father Perry Hanson. Once he finds him, he locates a child’s baseball mitt in the backseat of his vehicle. He also finds a key to the Hanson’s home. Brass arrests Perry. Catherine finds a piece on tan cloth on a chain link fence. She realizes that Lucas was wearing khaki board shirts. Search dogs draw Catherine and Sofia to a few curly black hairs lodged into a piece of wood on the floor of the abandoned house in which the boys were playing. Catherine locates  children’s toys and candy in the old house along with a dental bridge still holding two molars. Catherine remembers that Jason’s grandfather Terrance, whom she met with earlier, was missing his dental bridge. Meanwhile, Sofia finds blood. Back at the Crowley home, Terrance tells Catherine that he went to the abandoned home to tell the boys that it was dinner time. Lucas got angry and punched Terrance; dislodging his dental bridge. Retaliating, Terrance hit Lucas and he fell on the ground; hitting his head. Meanwhile, Sara and Greg find a small plastic cup and a pizza box in the Mercury. Sara tells Grissom that she found picked off pizza mushrooms and whiskey in the backseat of the vehicle leading to kids being in the car as an adult would have ordered pizza without mushrooms as opposed to picking them off individually.

Across town, Warrick finds Lucas’s body covered in sand on a golf course. Sara heads to the pizza place and speaks with an employee who says she saw a white man and child come into the shop and order a pizza with mushrooms. She says that the man drove a Mercury Marquis. Sofia manages to locate Jason Crowley on a bus headed to Arizona. Warrick notes that Lucas had alcohol in his system. Sofia takes Jason into the interrogation room and he says he recognizes Carl Fisher, however he says Carl didn’t kill Lucas. With Terrance and Carl as the main suspects, the CSIs race against time to discover their criminal before he strikes again.
