Outside a local diner, Jerry Gable lies dead atop a pile of Thanksgiving scraps – He literally ate himself to death. A soft pretzel wrapper found in the vic’s pocket and his stomach contents help the team piece together the final events of Jerry’s life, leading Catherine and Brass into the lucrative world of competitive eating. When Grissom discovers the vic had a genetic disorder resulting in uncontrollable hunger, the team follows the evidence to find who tried to cash in on Jerry’s misfortune by entering him in the contest.

Meanwhile Nick, Sara and Sofia arrive at the Tinsley home, where Lori and Michael Tinsley lay dead – Michael with an abrasion to his forehead, Lori gouged at the jugular. Evidence reveals that Lori was attacked by a golden retriever and they find the Tinsley’s golden, Kahlua, covered in blood. But divorce records show the embattled couple was fighting over custody of the dog. When Kahlua’s bite impressions don’t match to Lori’s wounds and autopsy reveals a bullet lodged up Michael’s nostril, the CSIs learn the lengths this couple would go to one-up each other, even if their beloved Golden was used as a pawn.
