The episode opens in a bustling casino; officers chase an armed criminal. When an officer goes down, the shooting traumatizes Warrick, however he keeps his eye on catching the criminal.

 Across town, Grissom and Brass investigate a case in which a Janice Cutler was shot to death. Sara checks the bedroom for evidence, and finds grass stains on the carpet. She checks Janice and her husband Willie’s shoes and finds no apparent grass stains. Brass brings in attractive young gardener Timothy Johnson. Timothy confesses that he was sleeping with Janice when her husband came home. He also has grass stains all over his shoes. Janice told Timothy to hide in the closet. Janice’s husband found him there, and told him to leave. Timothy states that he thinks she was alive when he left. In the interim, Warrick and Nick track down the hooker that Willie was sleeping with. Nick finds out that Willie works for Cowboy Dan’s Excursions as a tour representative. Catherine and Detective Vartann head to Cowboy Dan’s office and find him shot to death beneath his desk; another employee lies dead next to him. Upon further examination, Catherine finds Willie Cutler in a blood-soaked shirt huddled behind a desk; he’s alive. Brass believes that Willie hired someone to kill his boss, co-worker and wife as he wired fifty grand out of his account the night before the murders to a marker at the Lucky Dragon. Willie says he lost money at the tables. Greg questions cab driver Nicco who says a man that looked exactly like Willie drove with him in his cab for 6 hours last night. Greg does a close up on the picture, and realizes that this man is carrying the gun found at the scene. Brass finds out that Willie has an older brother Sammy. Sara realizes that Willie faked his gunshot wound as he used a ballpoint pen to make the incision, but no lead was found in the body. Brass locates Willie in a nearby casino. When Willie notices that he is being trailed, he takes a hostage and points a gun to her head. He tells Brass that unless they allow him to speak with his brother he will kill the hostage. With a dangerous situation on their hands, one of the team members takes a bullet to the chest in order to protect an innocent hostage.
