An emaciated female corpse is found in the desert – head shaved, a hand missing, and a number branded into her arm. The vic is identified as Zoe Kessler, the estranged daughter of Lady Heather, and autopsy reveals her corpse was surgically mutilated. Messages on Zoe’s answering machine lead the CSIs to Betz Pharmaceutical, a clinic where Zoe had undergone medical testing before her disappearance. There they meet Jacob Wolfowitz, the technician who conducted Zoe’s tests. He claims Zoe came in for an overnight sleep study but left early. Her car was left in the parking lot and she has not been seen since. Ultimately, genetically modified plants and a hidden surgical bunker reveal to Grissom and the CSI team just what kind of twisted medical testing Zoe underwent. And when sinew found in Zoe’s teeth is confirmed to be her own flesh, they also learn the desperate measures she took to escape.

Grissom and Lady Heather are reunited as they both discover what lengths she will go to in seeking revenge.
